Baseball: Nevada beats UC Davis 3-2

Reno, Nev. - University of Nevada (22-20) freshman infielder Joe Kohan delivered a two-out game winning single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Wolf Pack a 3-2 victory over UC Davis on Tuesday night at Peccole Park in Reno. With the victory the Pack improved to 22-20 while the Aggies dropped to 7-32 on the season.


Trailing 3-2 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning the Pack scored twice to defeat the Aggies. Center fielder Westley Moss walked to start the inning and stole second base with designated hitter Shaun Kort at the plate. Kort struck out and first baseman Tyson Jaquez reached on catcher interference for the second time in the game to put two runners on for pinch hitter Brock Stassi. Waylen Sing Chow entered the game to pinch run for Jaquez. With Stassi at the plate Moss moved to third on a wild pitch. Stassi walked to load the bases for right fielder Brett Hart. With Hart at the plate a second wild pitch in the inning allowed Moss to score the tying run. Hart flew out to deep center field and both runners moved into scoring position. Catcher Travis Simas was hit by pitch to load the bases for Kohan. Kohan hit a 1-2 pitch from reliever Scott Lyman over the head of right fielder Kyle Mihaylo to score Sing Chow with the winning run.


Nevada scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning when Moss reached on catchers interference and scored all the way from first base on Kort's double.


The score remained 1-0 until the top of the eighth inning when UCD got a two-out two-run double from left fielder Ty Kelly to take the lead. It remained 2-1 until Kohan drove home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning.


Daniel Tinlin (4-0), the fifth Pack pitcher of the night, won his fourth game of the season pitching a scoreless top of the ninth inning. Lyman (0-2) lost for the second time giving up two runs, one earned in 1.2 innings on the mound.


Jaquez (2-for-3) and Kohan (2-for-5,RBI) led the Pack with two hits apiece. Kort and Kohan each drove in a run on the night.


Five different Aggie hitters collected a hit in the game and Kelly drove in both UCD runs.


Nevada returns to Western Athletic Conference play this weekend with a four-game series at Fresno State with game one slated for 6:00 p.m. on Friday evening at Pete Beiden Field.
