Panel recommends new felony for gang activity

The Assembly Judiciary Committee Thursday voted to recommend passage of legislation creating a new felony for promoting the activities of a criminal gang.

AB335 by Assemblywoman Bonnie Parnell, D-Carson City, provides that a misdemeanor or gross misdemeanor offense to promote gang activities would constitute a category E felony if it was that person's third such offense.

The committee vote was unanimous to send the measure to the floor with a do-pass recommendation.
