Extra Dangberg Home Ranch tours offered this weekend

Staff Reports

The Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park, operated by the Nevada Division of State Parks in collaboration with Douglas County, offers an extra tour this weekend.

In addition to the regular 10 a.m. tours offered Wednesday through Sunday, a 2 p.m. tour will be offered Friday through Sunday.

Advance reservations are required for all tours.

"The Home Ranch truly is an important site with a fascinating collection," said Park Interpreter Mark Jensen.

"Four generations of the Dangberg family lived here, so in addition to giving visitors a sense of a specific era in each room, we also want to show the changes that took place over the entire span of the ranch's 150-year history. As a result, every visitor seems to find something that connects with their own history."

The tour includes several historic buildings constructed between 1857 and 1916, particularly the main residence.

Information is given on the history of the Dangberg family and its ranching operations, with displays of artifacts that date from the late 19th century through the 1970s including furniture, clothing, agricultural tools, ceramics, artwork and books.

Restoration work on the buildings' electrical systems and exteriors, including wood and masonry repairs and a fresh coat of paint, was completed earlier this year.

Allow two hours for the tour. Tour groups limited to 10 people. Admission is $3 for adults and free for children 12 and younger. Reservations at dangbergranch@parks.nv.gov or 783-9417.
