18 bidders turn out for ditch project

A project to place the open ditch that runs along County Road between Fourth and Fifth streets into a pipe attracted 18 different bidders and more than double that number of inquiries.

The table in the Fortnightly Room upstairs at the CVIC Hall was filled on both sides with contractors tracking the bids as they were opened.

Gardnerville's V&C Construction was the apparent low bidder for the project with a bid of $416,667.50.

Tim Russell, who works for the town's engineer Resource Concepts, said he's never seen this many bids for a job.

The job was estimated to cost $600,000 and will consist of putting in a pipe and a sidewalk.
