Monday deadline for Candy Dance activities

Staff Reports

Candy packers wanted

Volunteers are needed to pack two tons of candy that will be sold at the Candy Dance Faire on Sept. 27 and 28. Candy packing begins at 10 a.m. Monday at the Genoa Town Office building.

The 16 varieties of candy made this year include fudge with and without nuts, Genoa truffles, rocky road, haystacks, peanut clusters, peanut butter cups, almond bark, pecan bark, Genoa twists, peanut brittle, divinity, turtles, dragon eyes, krispie treats and chocolate mints. Candy prices range from $1 for krispie treats to $12 for a one-pound assortment box. The candy booth will be located in front of the Genoa Country Store at the corner of Main Street and Genoa Lane.

Candy is the key ingredient to the continued success of the Candy Dance tradition. The Candy Dance was founded in 1919 by Lillian Virgin Finnegan who served homemade candy at a community fall dance to raise money for the town's streetlights.

Volunteers continue to donate their time and talents to make candy to sell at the Candy Dance Faire, and the money raised at the fair continues to support the Town of Genoa.

To volunteer to be a candy packer, contact the Genoa Town Office at 782-8696, or Marian Vassar, 782-4584.
