Football: Coleville thumps Round Mountain

After a first week forfeit by Pyramid Lake, Coleville finally got to play a game and responded in a strong fashion defeating hosting Round Mountain 50-30.

The Wolves dominated the first quarter scoring on their first three drives to take a 22-0 lead into the second quarter.

Penalties and defensive mistakes plagued Coleville for the next two quarters allowing Round Mountain to gain the momentum and close to within four points at the end of the third quarter. Coleville regained control of the game in the fourth quarter using a punishing running game led by junior quarterback Jason Peters' 100 yards on the ground mixed with a lethal passing attack.

The Coleville Wolves ended the game with 507 yards of total offense.

Peters led the way with five touchdown passes on a 26-of-35 for 367-yard day with one interception.

Peters also scored twice on short runs.

Sophomore split end Emmi Sandoval led the receivers with 166 yards including three touchdown receptions.

Senior flanker Colton Ward also had an outstanding day ending with 151 yards in receptions and two touchdown catches. Sophomore fullback Shane Parker added versatility with 39 receiving yards and 35 yards rushing.

Defensively Coleville was led by Ward with two solos and nine assists, Parker with two solos and eight assists, and Peters with two solos and nine assists.

Jay Clark also played well defensively with nine assists.

"I was very happy with the way we responded to diversity," Coleville coach Will Sandy said.

"It looked for a while in the second and third quarter that our frustration was going to get the best of us but we responded very well in fourth quarter, showing a lot of heart and mental toughness.

"Although Peters, Sandoval, and Ward had the big statistical days, I really believe that our line, both offensively and defensively, saved the day for us. Steve Koelling, Will Goode, Nik Sherlock, Jay Clark and Jake Westerlund did an outstanding job when it really counted."

Coleville hosts Owyhee Saturday afternoon in a league contest that will begin at 1 p.m.
