Coleville football wins opener

The Coleville football team opened the season with a 36-26 victory at home over Round Mountain.


Sophomore quarterback Jason Peters led the Wolves offensively with 214 yards passing and 146 yards rushing.


Peters scored three rushing touchdowns on twin runs of 20 yards and a four-yard plunge. He also threw two touchdown passes of 14 and 28 yards.


"I was pretty happy with the play of our offensive and defensive lines considering it was our first game," Coleville coach Will Sandy said. "We made too many mistakes on offense with seven turnovers, but we were still able to maintain our composure and find a way to win the game.


Junior flanker Dylan Hudson led the Coleville receivers with 83 yards in receptions. He also scored a two-point conversion.


Senior tight end Marco Barajas had 68 yards receiving to go with a 35-yard touchdown reception.


Senior split end Trevor Anderson caught a 25-yard touchdown pass and finished with 57 yards receiving.


Defensively, Coleville was led by linebackers Barajas with three solo tackles and 12 assists and Colton Ward with three solos and eight assists.


Nose guard Erik Buehrle (two solos, eight assists) and defensive end Will Goode (one solo, eight assists) also had big games.


The Wolves forced five turnovers, including a fumble recovery and an interception by freshman cornerback Emmi Sandoval. Hudson also intercepted a pass and Trevor Anderson and Terrence Garcia each recovered fumbles.


Coleville hosts Smith Valley Saturday at 1 p.m.
