The R-C Morning Report

Douglas County commissioners are going to get an early start on what promises to be a very long day at 10 a.m. today. We should know the new county recorder and whether T. Michael Brown is the new county manager by lunchtime. Those stories will appear online and in Friday's paper. We have no idea how long Park Cattle will take. We'll post a note as soon as we know the outcome. Commissioners meet in their chambers on 1616 Eighth St. in Minden.

I suspect we won't be getting anything new on the Burnside fire until after the morning briefing today. The hand crews must have hit some rough terrain, because the progress for containment has slowed considerably. An outbuilding was lost on the first day of the fire. Alpine County Airport is open for regular traffic again after being taken over for the firefighting effort for a bit.

The National Weather Service is reporting Minden received no moisture during the months of July or August.. If your allergies seem particularly bad, that's part of it. Even with the dry months, Minden is in the lead for total moisture going into the last month of the water year with 90 percent if it doesn't see another drop of moisture. The water year ends on Sept. 30. Next highest would be Monitor Pass with 76 percent and Ebbett's Pass with 70.

The forecast for today is sunny and clear with the high temperature creeping up toward 90 degrees. It doesn't appear as though there are any big changes in the near future.
