Valley resident quarter horse winner

Gardnerville resident Laurel Champlin and her American quarter horse Skys Blue Eyes won the world champion hunter hack title at the American Quarter Horse Association Bayer Select World Championship Show on Aug. 31 in Amarillo, Texas.

Champlin won the title and a prize package that included a Montana Silversmith's sterling silver buckle with 14-karat gold overlay, a neck wreath, custom-designed gold-tone trophy, Cripple Creek jacket with world champion patch, WeatherBeeta products and a cash prize.

More than 1,150 American Quarter Horse Association Amateur Select members from the United States and Canada competed at the 2008 world championship show.

The Bayer Select World Show is the largest single-breed championship horse show open exclusively to amateur exhibitors age 50 and older who qualify in English, Western and halter disciplines.
