Haunted happenings sneak up this weekend

The Douglas County Historical Society invites all ghost hunters and history buffs for a spirited adventure into Carson Valley's haunted past during Haunted Weekend, Friday through Sunday.

n Walk the historic streets of downtown Gardnerville, hear stories about haunted sites and meet ghosts from the past during the Haunted Gardnerville Ghost Walk, Friday. The ghost walk focuses on the history of the town and its people and who know how many ghosts may be encountered.

Guided tours will depart from the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395, Gardnerville. Tour times are 6:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 per person. Advanced reservations are recommended, as each tour group is limited in size. Reservations at the museum, 782-2555.

n If you have always wanted to visit a cemetery at night now is your chance. Gather up your courage for the Haunted Gardnerville Cemetery Tour at Garden Cemetery on Saturday to meet early pioneers and others from Carson Valley's past. Guided tours depart every 15 minutes between 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tickets are $5 per person.

n The Haunted Genoa Ghost Walk will depart from the Genoa Court House Museum at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Sunday. Mormon Station, later known as Genoa, was the first permanent settlement in Nevada and has a rich and exciting history, with or without ghosts. Tickets are $5 each. Remember to dress warmly " hat, coat, gloves " for the walking tours. Warm and comfortable walking shoes are recommended to keep you from becoming dead on your feet.
