Indian Hills delays manager selection

Members of the Indian Hills General Improvement District delayed selecting a general manager until Nov. 3 after voting to perform a background check on the four candidates.

Those up for Indian Hills manager are Californians Preston Kinne and Thomas Glab, Nevada native James Taylor of Fernley and Indian Hills resident Bill Moriarty.

Board clerk Bill Eisele asked if the board could hold off until after the ethics hearing to determine whether as a relative of a district employee, he could vote on that person's direct supervisor.

Eisele's daughter-in-law is Sandi Eisele, the district's human relations manager. Eisele said two attorneys said he should abstain from voting until after the hearing.

Board members voted 3-1 Monday night to interview Moriarty, a former Chevron executive, for the position.

Board trustee Kathryn Clark-Ross suggested waiting two weeks to make a decision while background and reference checks are conducted.

Trustee Brian Patrick pointed out that even if the board did wait, there was no guarantee that Eisele would have had his hearing.

Eisele said he was assured by state officials that he would have a hearing on the issue soon.

Chairwoman Laura Lau said she felt the board should make a decision without Eisele.

"We've been without a general manager since March," she said.

Board members voted 3-1 to delay the selection with Lau voting no.
