n Metamorphosis at Your Library is the theme for the Teen Summer Reading Program for youth 12 to 18 at the Douglas County Public Library that continues through Aug 16. Registration forms available in the Young Adult section at the library. Fill out a book review entry form for every 100 pages read to win prizes. Weekly prize drawings for certificates from local businesses are on Wednesday evenings. The grand prize drawing for an iPod shuffle is Aug. 18.

n The Douglas County Public Library in Minden will be closed 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 14 for staff participation in the Carson Valley Days Parade. The library is open from 1-6 p.m. that day.

n The Douglas County Public Library hosts an ice cream social as a fundraiser for the library foundation, 6:30-8:30 p.m. June 18 at the CVIC Hall, 1602 Esmeralda Ave. Make ice cream sundaes and purchase raffle tickets for prizes.

The foundation uses funds to support library services, materials and programs. Raffle tickets may be purchased at the Minden library from June 3-18, and at the Scholastic Community Book Fair 3-9 p.m. June 17-18 at the CVIC Hall.

n Catch the Reading Bug is the theme for the Summer Reading Program for children at the library. This year's program features an evening with magician Magic Dan on 7 p.m. June 17 at the CVIC Hall, 1602 Esmeralda Ave., Minden.

Magic Dan is celebrating his 20th year as a professional magician and has entertained and educated children with performances are filled with positive messages that enhance and reinforce education, reading and self-esteem.

n An evening of local authors including Terri Farley, Ellen Hopkins, Miki Trujillo, Jim Darrough, Nancee Goldwater, Barbara Hegne, William Hill, Fox Hughes, Helen Martin, Ruth Posselt, Frank Rocha and Evelyne Tannehill is 5:30-8:30 p.m. June 18 at the CVIC Hall, 1602 Esmeralda Ave., Minden.
