Track & Field: Area middle schools strong in season finale

Three Valley middle schools turned in strong performances at the recent Tah-Neva Conference Middle School Track & Field Championships at Douglas High School.

The Carson Valley Middle School boys' and girls' eighth-grade teams stole away with overall conference titles while local athletes claimed 23 titles in the individual events.

Local results are as follows:

Faith Christian Academy's Aspen Abbott won the 75 hurdles (13.16), the 400 (1:04.52), the long jump (14-3.5) and the triple jump (31-0). That gave her a conference title in every event she competed in, which was the best individual performance of the meet.

Carson Valley's Lauren Babbitt was the only other local athlete to win a title in the sixth- and seventh-grade girls division, taking first in the high jump with a leap of 4-5. Carson Valley swept the top three places in the event as Jenna Broussard took second and Emily Downer took third.

Faith Christian had a 1-2 sweep in the triple jump with Abbott taking first and Tamarah Torres taking second with a 25-7. Pau-Wa-Lu's April Hoogendijk took fifth and Carson Valley's Lyrissa Grant took sixth in the event.

Pau-Wa-Lu's Morgan Karnofel took second in the long jump, while Carson Valley's Kelsey Mehrer was fifth and Hoogendijk was eighth.

Karnofel also took second in the 200 hurdles while Carson Valley's Jasmyn Peterson was third and Hoogendijk was seventh.

Mehrer took second in the open 200 and Carson Valley's Lexie Weaver took seventh.

Carson Valley's Marissa Cowan was a second-place finisher in the 100 while Torres took fifth and Peterson took sixth.

Babbitt was a sixth-place finisher for Carson Valley in the 75 hurdles while Torres took seventh.

The Carson Valley 4x100 relay team took second and the Tigers' 4x400 team took fifth.

Carson Valley's Katelin Didero took fourth in the 3,200. Downer took fourth in the discus and Diana Regalado took sixth in the shot put for Carson Valley. Pau-Wa-Lu's Illiana Brown took seventh in the shot.

Pau-Wa-Lu's Cole Melhus was the highest local placer in the division, taking second in the 400 with a time of 1:02. Carson Valley's Dusty Fisher took fifth in the event with a time of 1:06.87.

The Carson Valley 4x100 relay team took third with a time of 54.43 and Fisher and Connor Peterson took fourth and fifth respectively in the 100. Peterson added a fifth in the 200 and a sixth in the shot put and Fisher took fifth in the long jump.

Draeson Smith took fourth in the 3,200, fifth in the 1,600 and seventh in the 800 for Carson Valley.

Carson Valley's Joseph White took eighth in the 1,600.

Local athletes took conference titles in all but five events and Carson Valley ran away with the team title with its superior depth.

Carson Valley's April Sorenson took first in the 75 hurdles with a time of 12.91 while Amanda Brazeau too fourth, Heidi Shefick took sixth and Eliza Matley took eighth.

Katie Dry took the first of her three titles in the 100 (13.33) while Brianna Randall took third, Alexyss easlick took sixth and Brazeau took eighth.

Pau-Wa-Lu's Tia Lyons won the 1,600 while teammates Cara Dunkelman took third and Sadie Gastelum took seventh.

The Carson Valley 4x100 team took first with a 53.21.

Dry won the 400 (1:03.10) and Lyons took second.

Sorenson won the 200, Brazeau took second, Pau-Wa-Lu's Cora Moody took third, Carson Valley's Halle Neihoff took fourth and Schefick took fifth.

Dry also won the 200, Easlick took fifth and Neihoff took seventh.

Dunkelman took second in the 3,200, Gastelum took sixth and Becky Grabow took eighth.

Pau-Wa-Lu's 4x400 relay team took a conference title with a 4:41.52 while Carson Valley took fifth.

Jazz Halow took second in the shot put for Carson Valley and followed that with a fourth-place finish in the discus. Carson Valley's Kaitlyn Varble took fifth in the discus and Kami Miller took seventh.

Pau-Wa-Lu's Shannon Hubbard won the long jump with a 14-0, while Neihoff took second, Carson Valley's Marissa Knight and Brittney Lathrop took seventh.

Sorenson and Hubbard took second and third in the triple jump while Downer won the high jump, Moody took second and Lyons took seventh.

Carson Valley's Holly Downer took eighth in the 800.

Carson Valley's Caymen Hoshizaki took two conference titles to lead the Tiger boys to a team title.

He won the 100 with a time of 13.05 and the 200 with a 25.5

Carson Valley's John Ortega took third in the 100 and Nick Maestretti took second, Ortega took fifth and Eric Edwards took eighth in the 200.

Carson Valley's Andrew Cobourn won the 1,600 (5:25) and Pau-Wa-Lu's Tanner DeGiovanni took seventh.

Maestretti won the 400 while teammates Ben Khongkhatitham, Nate Brown and Mark Wright took third, fourth and fifth respectively.

Carson Valley also won the 4x100 relay.

Jace Carlson won the 200 hurdles for the Tigers while Craig Stratton took third, Sam Cochran took sixth and Cole DuFresne took seventh.

Adrian Duenas won the 800, Levi Jenkins took fourth, Wright took sixth and Pau-Wa-Lu's DeGiovanni took eighth.

Stratton won the long jump, Noah Thew took third and Pau-Wa-Lu's Steven Worth took fourth.

Matt Wylie took second in the shot put and seventh in the discus while Pau-Wa-Lu's Dillon McKinnish took eighth in the discus.

Maestretti took second in the high jump, Khongkhatitham took third, Thew took fourth and Pau-Wa-Lu's Conner Michitarian took eighth.

Stratton took sixth in the 75 hurdles and Connor Love took seventh.

Stratton took fifth in the triple jump, Hoshizaki took sixth and Pau-Wa-Lu's Kevin Owens took eighth.

Faith Christian's Anthony Brewer took eighth in the 3,200.
