Douglas County Senior Center

The Douglas County Senior Center introduced the Life Options program to expand the ways seniors are motivated to be more mentally and physically active. The senior center offers Life Options activities almost daily and most are free.

The senior center is at 2300 Meadow Lane, Gardnerville. For information on the program and other activities, call 783-6455.


Upcoming Life Options activities:

n Wise Owl Yoga returns July 22. Regular class times are 10-10:30 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday under the trees at the senior center.

n Resistance exercise class is offered 10:30-11:15 a.m. on Monday and Wednesday.

n Ceramics classes are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays.

n A scrapbooking class is 10 - 10:30 a.m. July 24. There is a $6 charge.

n Knitting and crocheting, 9 a.m. Mondays.

n Green Thumb Garden Club meets at 10 a.m. July 28.

n Free excursion to see the 1947 movie, "The Bishop's Wife," starring Cary Grant and Loretta Young on July 28. The bus departs at 8 a.m. for a 10 a.m. showing at the Galaxy Theaters in Carson City.


Boys & Girls Club of Carson Valley

The Boys & Girls Club summer program is 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday through Aug. 8 at Carson Valley Middle School and through Aug. 15 at Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School. Field trips include bowling, going to Carson Valley Swim Center, Wild Island and Sand Harbor.

Douglas County Parks & Recreation

Adventure Camp offers children ages 5-12 daily activities during summer break. Field trips include Sand Harbor Beach at Lake Tahoe, Carson Valley Swim Center, bowling at Carson Lanes, climbing and bounce houses at Jump Man Jump in Reno, Indy car rides and miniature golf at Wild Island in Sparks, movies at Ironwood Cinema 8 Theater and fun at Lampe Park.

Other activities include art and crafts, group games, board games, jump rope, dodge ball and outdoor play.

Adventure Camp is 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday at Pinon Hills and Meneley elementary schools. Cost is $22 per day, which includes admission fees, transportation cost and a daily snack. Spaces are limited and pre-registration is required.

Western Nevada College fall classes

Fall instruction begins Aug. 25 at Western Nevada College. Check out the fall schedule and register now for classes at www.wnc.edu. Campus orientation is 5:30 p.m. Aug. 14 in room 104 of the WNC Douglas campus, 1680 Bently Parkway, Minden. Information, 782-2413.
