Area youth play in satellite circuit

The third stage of the Northern Nevada Junior Satellite Series was held at the Tahoe Donner Club in Truckee, Calif., last week.


Pat Johnson, 11, won three rounds en route to claiming the boys' 12 championship. He won 7-5, 6-1 in the finals over Trevor Balsi.


Mike Johnson, 10, teamed up with Balsi to win the 12 doubles title.


Matt Johnson, 12, and Sam Johnson, 9, had first round losses in the 12 bracket.


The NorCal-sanctioned Tilly Botti Junior Open was held at the Plumas courts in Reno.


Nick Goodner, 9, won his first match 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) over the 25th-ranked player in the NorCal 10 bracket. He continued to play well and finished second.


Amelia Ritger, 15, had an impressive 6-4, 6-2 win over last year's Northern 4A No. 3-seed Diana Kovaltchouk of Reno. Ritger then lost in the next round.


Cesarina Ceglia, 16, competed in her first tournament in the girls' 18 bracket. She lost 3-6, 1-6, but gained valuable experience.


Goodner competed in another open level tournament in Stockton, Calif. He took the first round 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) but lost in the next to a NorCal top 10 player.
