Little League All-Stars open up with two wins

The Carson Valley Little League 11-12-year-old All-Stars picked up two wins in its first three games of pool play at the Nevada District I Tournament at the South Valleys Regional Sports Complex in Reno.


Carson Valley opened the tournament with a 7-6 win over Sparks Centennial. Sullivan Cauley belted a solo home run in the first inning and Matt Elliott blasted a two-run homer in the second to get Carson Valley on the board early on.


Carson Valley brought four more runs across in the fourth as Austin Evans hit a two-run home run and Seth Trivitt and Parker Hoshizaki each had RBI doubles.


Taylen Lopez-Simms and Teddy Mason each had hits in the game as well.


Cody Schmidlin got the start on the mound for Carson Valley and struck out six through four innings. Kyle Johnson closed the game out by striking out all six batters he faced in the fifth and sixth innings.


Carson Valley followed with a loss to Washoe during which Lopez-Simms picked up the team's only hit.


Cole Peck and Dalton Grisell each threw well on the mound for Carson Valley during the game.


Carson Valley bounced back with an 8-6 win over Reno American West Monday night as Johnson struck out seven and scattered seven hits in five-plus innings of work and Evans recorded the save.


The team scored five runs in the second inning as Hoshizaki had a two-RBI double, Cauley doubled and drove in a run, Cody Carter doubled with an RBI and Mason singled.


Cauley later drove a two-run home run to right and finished with three RBIs and Mason homered to center. Evans doubled and Johnson, Schmidlin and Wes Hundley each had base hits. Schmidlin added an RBI as well.


Carson Valley took on Reno National Tuesday night in an crucial game for the team's seeding in the elimination bracket. Results of that game will be posted online as they become available.


The Carson Valley 10-11-year-old All-Stars won its quarterfinal matchup against Truckee 2-0 before losing to Sparks National 1-0.


The Carson Valley 9-10-year-old All-Stars beat Truckee 13-9 in the quarterfinals but lost to Washoe in the semifinals.
