Matthew Joeseph Furin, 17, a Minden resident, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, at his home.

Matthew was a loving son, brother and a shining light for all the souls he touched in his short time on this earth. We will miss him.

Matthew was a dirt bike desert racer with the Moran Dirt Bike Racer Club, an avid guitar player and artist.

He had so many friends that will miss him.

He was going to be a senior this year at Douglas High School, and he had previously attended North Valleys High in Reno.

He is survived by his mother Carolyn Furin of Minden, father David Furin of Cold Springs, step-mother Leah Furin of Cold Springs, brother Robbie Furin of Minden, and sister Heidi Fisher of Jonestown, Pa.

A private memorial service was held, and his ashes will be scattered at a later date.

Minden resident Shirley Lee Gephart, 74, died Aug. 19, 2008.

Mrs. Gephart was born Nov. 1, 1933, in Pennsylvania to Orville and Mildred Bargerstock.

She married John Gephart in Comberland, Md.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed bingo and games of all kinds. She was a member of Freedom Congregation and Carson Valley Christian Center.

Mrs. Gephart is survived by husband John; sons Ron (Judi) Gephart and Bill Gephart; brothers Jim, Ron and Chuck Bargerstock; sister Audrey (Jim) Davidson; brother-in-law Rich Petrouich, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Gardnerville resident Marion S. Mann died Aug. 14, 2008, in Petaluma, Calif.

Born in 1916 in Philomath, Ore., he was a man with a deep love for his family. A trucker by trade, his love of long rides and travel went well together.

Growing up in Eugene, Ore., his love of sports carried him through to college. He raised his family in Ashland while working for United Grocers.

After retiring to Yuma, Ariz., and Gardnerville, his love of playing at the casinos and dancing with Ruth kept him busy. His warm smile, amazing sense of humor, silver dollar pancakes and words of wisdom will be greatly missed. We love you.

Mr. Mann is survived by his partner of 22 years Ruth Spencer, children Judith Grider (Buzz) and Donal Mann; grandchildren Debbie Lee (Robert), Trisha Baker (David) and Joe Mann (A.J.); great-grandchildren Jake and Maggie Lee and Harley Baker.

Arrangements were in care of Adobe Creek Funeral Home of Petaluma.

A memorial service for Audre Jeanne Schachner is 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1480 Douglas Ave., in Gardnerville. Mrs. Schachner, 82, died at her Gardnerville home on Aug. 20, 2008.

Mrs. Schachner was born Oct. 19, 1925, in Gerber, Calif., to Sylvester and Maggie Hempe. She graduated from Reno High School in 1942 and married Harley Schachner in Louisville, Ky., in 1944.

Mrs. Schachner worked as an office manager in the food service industry and was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed cards, games, travel and reading.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harley and son Robert Schachner, both of Downey, Calif., her parents, brothers Buster and Jimmy and sister Esther. Her survivors include daughter Ruth and husband Cosmo Berkeley of Gardnerville.

Arrangements are in care of FitzHenry's Funeral Home of Gardnerville.
