Man admits forcing girl to have sex

A 21-year-old Minden man admitted Monday he forced a 14-year-old girl to have sex with him.

In an agreement with the district attorney's office, Cameron Cook pleaded guilty to sexually motivated coercion.

He is set for sentencing Oct. 6 and faces up to six years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

"This is a serious offense," said District Judge Michael Gibbons. "You are not eligible for probation unless a psycho-sexual evaluation determines you are not at a risk to reoffend."

Originally, Cook was charged with sexual assault against a child under age 16 which could have resulted in life in prison.

Cook was arrested in March after a 14-year-old girl said he gave her alcohol and had sex with her.

The girl said she sneaked out of her residence to meet Cook at his home. She said she wanted to watch movies, but Cook mixed her drinks and forced her to have sex, according to reports.

He has been in Douglas County Jail on $7,500 bail since his arrest.

A 49-year-old Gardnerville Ranchos woman faces up to 15 years in Nevada State Prison after she pleaded guilty Monday to her second felony conviction for driving under the influence.

Janice Generelli is set for sentencing Sept. 29.

She is ineligible for probation and must serve a minimum of two years. Because it is her second felony conviction, the maximum sentence is 15 years.

She was arrested May 6 on Redwood Circle in the Gardnerville Ranchos with a blood-alcohol content of .27, more than three times the legal limit of .08 for driving in Nevada.

On June 26, she was jailed on $10,000 bail after she was found at her residence with a blood-alcohol content of . 232, in violation of her release.

Generelli was sent to prison in 1993 for a prior DUI felony. On a second conviction, the penalty is doubled.

District Judge Michael Gibbons refused to reduce Leon's $25,000 bail.

A South Lake Tahoe house cleaner admitted Monday that he stole a $10,000 heirloom wedding ring from a client that he pawned for $60.

Stephen Manning pleaded guilty to theft, saying he needed money because he and his wife had taken in six children and the family was living in a two-bedroom apartment.

He faces five years in Nevada State Prison and a $10,000 fine at his sentencing Oct. 6. Manning could receive probation with conditions including jail time.

The ring was returned to the owner, but the inscription " written in 1942 when her grandparents were married " had been filed off.

According to reports, Manning and his wife were employed by the victim to clean her Stateline home while she was at work. When she returned on April 25, she noticed her jewelry box had been disturbed and the ring was missing.

At first, Manning denied taking the ring, but witnesses contacted investigators with information. Deputies obtained a video from the Reno pawn shop of a man identified as the suspect with the item.

Gibbons released Manning on his own recognizance. He has no prior criminal record.
