Overnight fire destroys Lake Village fourplex

A fire last night that continued early this morning at the Lake Village townhome complex in Stateline destroyed a fourplex unit, authorities said.

The fire happened at around 11 p.m. and burned for more than an hour, said Brian Williams, a neighbor who lives in the Lake Village complex.

No injuries were reported and no other structures were damaged. A state fire marshal is investigating the blaze, authorities said.

At the time fire units arrived the complex was fully engulfed, said Douglas County Sheriff's Sgt. Tom Mezzetta. Eleven fire units and six Douglas County Sheriff's patrol officers responded, as did the South Lake Tahoe Fire Department.

Firefighters remain at the scene today and there was a flare-up earlier this morning, said Art Warrell, general manager for the Lake Village Homeowners Association.

The fire happened at the corner of Burke Creek and Manzanita Court, he said. The complex, which consisted of four units, was unoccupied at the time of the fire, Warrell said. The individual owners of the townhome units have been contacted, he added.

Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District was the lead agency on scene, however, because of the fires in Southern California and local units being sent there, agency officials are unavailable for comment, a dispatcher said.
