Benefit tonight for Douglas High student

There will be a benefit today to assist the family of David Philips with medical expenses as he undergoes rehabilitation at a hospital in Houston, Texas.

The 18-year-old Douglas High School student is being treated for complications from a heroin overdose on Aug. 11.

He is recovering at the Institute for Rehabilitation and Research in Houston after spending two months at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno.

The event from 5 to 8 p.m. at Carson Valley United Methodist Church in Gardnerville includes a spaghetti dinner, silent auction, raffle and presentation by Douglas County's Drug Abuse Resistance Education team.

Tickets for the dinner are $7 per person and $25 per family.

Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5. An account has been set up to assist with expenses at Bank of America. Donations may be made to any branch for account No. 501002159115.
