Summer Concert Series commences



The line-up for the free Summer Concert Series at Minden Park includes: Hotel California "A Salute to the Eagles" on May 25; the Comstock Cowboys on July 13; the Jeff Jones Band on July 27; the John Jorgenson Quintet on Aug. 10; and the Michael Powers Band on Aug. 24.


The Concerts in the Park, presented by the Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department, are from 6:30-8:30 p.m., with the exception of the last concert, the Michael Powers Band, which will perform from 6-8 p.m.


The Minden/Douglas Elks Lodge No. 2670 will provide food and non-alcoholic beverages for sale, but many families like to bring their own picnic dinners. For more information, call the parks and recreation department at 782-9828.

Hotel California 'A Salute to The Eagles'

A spirited blend of originality and the pursuit of excellence have taken Hotel California to a level of international recognition normally reserved for gold and platinum recording artists. With inspired vocal harmonies and authentic instrumentation, including all specialty instruments, this critically acclaimed show, faithfully and accurately reproduces the Grammy award winning sounds of the Eagles, in a stage spectacle that is both modern and exciting.

Comstock Cowboys

A Northern Nevada legend, the Comstock Cowboys are known for their traditional western sound and period outfits. Travel back to the 1800s when the Comstock was flourishing and colorful characters roamed the streets of Virginia City. Wear your best trail duds and watch the sun go down with some of the finest cowboy music on earth.

Jeff Jones Band

Take some southern rock roots, grooves, scorching slide guitar, vintage keyboards, funky beats and lyrics that dig in deep; mix them all together into a thick batter, bake 'em to a golden brown and you've got the sound of the Jeff Jones Band.

John Jorgenson Quintet

John Jorgenson is thought by many in the business to be the best guitarist they've ever seen. Elton John certainly thought so, hiring him for a world tour for six years until Jorgenson left to form his quintet, playing the gypsy jazz style of music made famous in the 1930s by Django Rheinhardt. Before Elton's gig, John led two highly regarded groups, the Desert Rose Band and the Hellecasters.

Michael Powers Band


-- 6-8 p.m. Aug. 24


Michael is back to once again finish up the concert series with a bang. This joyful entertainer from Seattle puts on a unique show with music for all ages, turning his custom guitar into multiple instruments, including sax, flute, piano, drums, clarinet and more. The members of his tight backup group are stars in their own right. Get ready to spend the evening smiling; Michael Powers has that effect on his audiences.
