Landscape architect Sandra Wendel found that in order to expand her staff, she had to expand her office space. So she put out her own shingle in Minden.
Landscape architecture means that Wendel does the design of outdoor spaces.
"I do public, private and commercial master planning," she said. "A lot of projects involve developing of conceptual plans to help flesh them out. I organize a space and give a nice structure as well as the appropriate plants."
Some of her past projects include the landscape design for the Douglas County Public Library, the "sign park" in front of the Verizon building and Carson Valley Plaza.
She is working with Resource Concepts Inc. on the Martin Slough project near Minden Village.
Wendel graduated with a masters of landscape architecture from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1987 and is licensed in both California and Nevada.
An open house event is 4 p.m. Friday, at 1624 10th St., Suite 3 in Minden. For more information, 782-8942.
