Fire burning in Alpine County

A 100-acre fire is burning southwest of Indian Creek Campground near Markleeville.

Highway 89 between Woodfords and Markleeville is open with a pilot car shuttling traffic through. Markleeville was out of power until late this morning and there is a voluntary evacuation of campers at the BLM campground at Indian Creek.

Two structures are threatened by the fire which started at about 3 a.m. today. The fire is burning in Pinon and juniper, sagebrush and grass. Firefighters have cut a line about a third of the way around the fire, according to Mark Struble, who last posted an update at 12:45 p.m.

Drift smoke from the fire can be seen along the eastern side of Carson Valley and smoke is affecting the Valley, Carson City and Wellington.
