1926-2007


A memorial service was Saturday at St. Gall Catholic Church for Jose Casanovas Garcia, 81, who died July 23, 2007 at his home in Gardnerville.


Mr. Garcia was born Feb. 5, 1926, in San Diego, to Emilo and Francisca Casanovas Garcia.


He was a graduate of Van Nuys High School in Southern California and also attended St. Elizabeth's Catholic School.


He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.


He married Alice Ruiz on May 28, 1969, in Hollywood, Calif. and they resided in the San Fernando Valley before moving to Gardnerville, 20 years ago.


He worked in the construction industry and was a carpenters union estimator. He was a member of the St. Gall Immaculate Heart of Mary Council, the Knights of Columbus and an AMVET Post 9936 member. Mr. Garcia was an avid fisherman, great skier and a wonderful father and grandfather.


He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson Michael Lewis. He is survived by his wife Alice Garcia of Gardnerville; his sons Christopher Garcia of Carson City, Nicolas Garcia of Gardnerville, Ronald Garcia and wife Andrea of Gardnerville and Patrick Lewis and wife Carolyn of Los Angeles; as well as three grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.


Arrangements are in the care of Walton's Douglas County Mortuary with cremation to take place at Walton's Sierra Crematory in Carson City.


The family requests memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or St. Gall Memorial Garden in Gardnerville.
