Sierra Crest fundraiser to benefit model solar system project

Staff Reports

Sierra Crest Academy students are raising money to help create the world's largest scale model solar system.

The school hopes to raise enough money to participate in the project of plotting the planets at several schools throughout Nevada.

The "solar system" originates with the sun at Lawlor Events Center at the University of Nevada, Reno, and continues on to planets in other schools in Reno, Minden, Hawthorne, Tonopah and Beatty until it ends with Pluto in Las Vegas.

If Sierra Crest is to participate in the project, they need funds to create a 40-foot representation of Jupiter.

The students are raising money by selling Mia Bella candles through March 16. To purchase candles, contact Suzanne Reynolds at 901-1037.

For more information, contact Sierra Crest Academy at 783-9002.
