Sandwich store submerged behind Minden Starbucks

The Port of Subs has been popular with Douglas High School students since it opened at the end of November, but is pretty much a secret to the rest of the Valley population because of its location behind Starbucks in Minden.

"The kids call in their orders from Douglas and we have them ready when they come in," said store manager Pamela Mikulski. "We can get them in and out and back to school on time."

Port of Subs is known for 18 varieties of cold sandwiches as well as hot sandwiches such as pastrami, meatball, grilled chicken and grilled steak sandwiches.

"Everything is sliced fresh every day which makes us different from our competitors," said Mikulski. "We bake our bread fresh every day."

Port of Subs is open for breakfast with breakfast sandwiches. Choose from an assortment of cheeses with smoked ham or bacon and egg on a roll or a wrap.

"And they're real eggs, we crack them," said Mikulski. "You can get anything on your breakfast sandwich you'd put on a regular sandwich."

To feed groups, Port of Subs has six-foot party subs, feasts for up to 55 and catering trays of meats, cheeses, fruit, vegetables, green salads, macaroni or potato salads and desserts.

"We can do lots of creative things," Mikulski said about the store's catering for holidays, baby showers, team parties, Avon parties, graduation, dances and sporting events.

"We do awesome wraps and salads and we're big on nutrition," said Mikulski. "There's zero trans fats in our sandwiches, even in our chips."

Port of Subs has their own brand of chips in various flavors made with no trans fat. Their brownies have few trans fats, but they are still working on making brownies with none at all.
