Elementary school starts Wednesday and the opening game of Douglas High's football season is Friday. Aug. 27 is the first day of school at the secondary schools. Watch out for children in crosswalks throughout the Valley. Both Carson Valley Middle School and Douglas High School have people walking across major thoroughfares.
This is the last week of scheduled work on the Highway 395, Muller Lane intersection. They've painted on the arrows and taken down the cones, so I'm not sure what else they have to do, but work is supposed to last until Aug. 25. Don't expect a traffic light at that intersection for a while, though. I'm told the rest of the Parkway will have to be done. The deadline for that work is 2012.
The red flag goes back up at 1 p.m. with gusty winds of 30-35 mph and humidity between 8-16 percent. The warning will expire at 7 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. The high temperature today is expected to hit 86 degrees. On Tuesday, the highs climb back into the 90s.
