The R-C Morning Report

Both Democrats and Republicans are meeting tonight, though for different reasons. The Democrats are inviting everyone to come out and "maucus" 8 p.m. at the new headquarters at 1662 Hwy 395, Suite 105, in Minden. A little earlier and down the highway a piece, the Republican Central Committee will meet at the Judicial and Law Enforcement Building starting at 6:30 p.m. Guest speaker is first lady Dawn Gibbons at 7:30 p.m. I don't know what the Democrats are serving, but I know the Republicans will have homemade cookies.

Hot August Nights will leave the nest today to lunch in downtown Minden as the 21st annual Poker Run will take over the town 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. More than 800 cars are expected to show up and food and drink will be available on Esmeralda Avenue.

Tonight Basque author Nancy Zubirl will be discussing her book "Travel Guide to Basque America," at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center in Gardnerville. The lecture starts at 7 p.m.

Looks like today will be another beautiful day with a high temperature in the 80s and a low in the 50s under sunny skies. A slight chance of thunderstorms popped up into the forecast late on Wednesday and there was a pretty big mass growing to east of the Valley, but there is no report it did anything.
