Gardnerville resident named National Postmaster of the Year

Longtime Gardnerville resident, Margaret Daniels, Postmaster of Markleeville was named National Postmaster of the Year by the National League of Postmasters of the United States at their annual convention held recently in Las Vegas.

Daniels was named the California Postmaster of the Year at the state convention held in Monterey last May.

That honor was also bestowed upon her in 1995. Each state selects their most deserving Postmaster of that year and then all 50 compete for the national title.

Margaret and husband Dennis Daniels have been married for 40 years, have one son Craig, married to Katie and they have the next love of their lives, granddaughter "Maddy."

Daniels started her postal career as a part time clerk in Gardnerville in 1977 and was promoted to Postmaster of Markleeville in 1986. Through her involvement in the League, which began 20 years ago, she has held several positions in the organization and has a long list of outstanding accomplishments serving on national committees for 16 years.

While serving on the National Membership Committee, she received its highest honor, the MB Morrison Blue Blazer.

During her service on the National Legislative Committee, Daniels traveled to 30 state conventions helping fellow Leaguers with Postmaster issues and raising funds for Political Action Committee. Daniels also received the First National Spirit Award, The Airlines Advisory Branch Leadership Award and a National Editor's Award for best state convention program.

Her community service includes Little League Coach, Cub Scout Pack 195, Youth Soccer, Organization Committee of the Douglas County Fair Board, Founding committee of the Douglas County Parent Faculty Club, Chaperone for the Douglas County Ski Club, Beta Sigma Phi Laureate Omega chapter, NARFE, Alpine County Chamber of Commerce, California State Fair representative, Friends of the Library, Historical Society and received the nomination for Alpine Woman of the Year in 2004.
