Softball: Lady Tigers pull away from Vikings

Bolstered by a big push in the final two innings, the Douglas High School softball team was able to put South Tahoe away 11-3 Tuesday afternoon in blustery conditions at the Lake.

Lauren Hoppe hit her fourth home run in three games, this one coming in her first at bat of the game with Donna Judd on base.

The Tigers had eight players collect at least one hit and Chloe Trudell drove in three runs. Hoppe and Emily Weaver each drove in two and Stephanie Harper, Mackenzie Cauley and Angella Stephenson each had one RBI.

The Vikings brought a run across on an error in the bottom of the inning but were never able to claim the lead.

Douglas extended its lead in the fourth after Katrina Morgan doubled and Harper singled to bring Morgan around. Trudell then doubled to score Harper.

The Tigers brought five runs across in the sixth and two more in the seventh to seal the win.

Harper improved her record to 13-5 in the circle this season with eight strikeouts and one walk.

Douglas improved to 14-7 overall on the year and 7-3 in league play with the win.
