Auto Racing: Matos wins 2nd-straight

Everything is coming up roses for Minden-based Sierra Sierra Enterprises' lead driver Raphael Matos so far this season on the Champ Car Atlantic circuit.

Matos captured his second win in two weeks, taking the Imperial Capital Bank Atlantic Challenge at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.

He led from flag to flag to take his third career victory, boosting his series-leading season total to 65 points, leading his closest competition by 11 points.

"It was definitely a perfect weekend for us," Matos told champcaratlantic.com. "I just want to thank everyone on the team. We will try to keep working hard, develop the car, make it better and try to get more wins and more points.

"As I've said before, we are definitely using a different approach than the start of last year. We're just trying to score points."

Sierra Sierra's other driver, James Hinchcliffe finished seventh out of 30 drivers after qualifying 10th for the race.

The team heads to Houston this weekend for the Fast Trac 100 at the Grand Prix of Houston.

The Long Beach race will be televised on ESPN2 at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
