Douglas County schools are back in session today after a two-week long spring break. School zones are back in effect, so watch out for students on their way to and from school and waiting at the bus stop.

Sentencing is today for a Topaz Ranch Estates man who held deputies at bay for a couple of hours on Jan. 3. Harry Sprouse, 60, admitted to a charge of resisting a public officer with a dangerous weapon in February and faces up to four years in prison today.

Douglas County budget hearings start 4 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. The county is saying it's balanced with about $600,000 in cuts. Under Nevada law, no county or municipality is allowed to turn in a budget that isn't balanced.

Today will be sunny and clear with light winds and a high temperature of about 66 degrees. But Tuesday will be windy with gusts of up to 41 mph overnight. The rest of the week will be cooler with rain and snow showers predicted for Thursday and Friday.
