Bar hosts federal public defender

Federal Public Defender Vito de la Cruz will speak before the Douglas County Bar Association noon Thursday at Two Guys From Italy in Gardnerville. Lunch, including tax and tip, is $15. While the program is oriented to lawyers, the general public is invited. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m.

In addition to working at the Reno Federal Public Defender's Office, de la Cruz has been part of the National Judicial College faculty teaching judicial skill-building courses since 2001.

Previously, he was a federal public defender in Washington, Las Vegas and Monterey County, Calif.

The Douglas County Bar Association is an association of county lawyers and judges.
