Short trial program topic of discussion at bar association

Attorneys Wesley Ayres and William Cobb will discuss Nevada's Short Trial Program, June 7 at the Douglas County Bar Association's noon CLE luncheon at Two Guys From Italy restaurant in Gardnerville.

Lunch, including tax and tip, is $15.

The short trial program is an innovative approach to expedite civil jury trials through procedures designed to control a trial's length.

Shorter trials promote judicial economy and conserve client resources by using smaller juries, shorter time limits for presentation of evidence and restrictions on discovery.

While Douglas Bar's program is oriented to lawyers, the general public is invited. Registration is at 11:30 a.m. and this program will run 90 minutes.

Ayres is the Washoe County alternative dispute resolution commissioner and co-presenter Cobb is a Reno trial attorney and past member of the Nevada Supreme Court's short trial advisory committee.

Both will discuss the mechanism by which a case may enter the program and explain discovery and certain pretrial procedures including the pretrial conference, the conduct of a short trial and other aspects of the new short trial rules

The Douglas County Bar Association is an association of county lawyers and judges whose purpose is the betterment of the legal profession and the administration of justice.

The association builds respect, esteem and good fellowship among members of the Bar of Douglas County and provides and promotes legal education of the legal community and the public.
