Platform: For the first time in 12 years, the voters have a choice for the Judge of the East Fork Justice Court. I hope you will take the time to investigate both candidates for this important judicial office.

I have lived and worked in Douglas County for over 15 years. I was raised in Tonopah and started working at 13 in my parents' business. Although I went to law school to learn how to be a trial attorney, I left with a profound respect for our Constitution. This country is unique, and an independent and impartial judiciary is fundamental to our liberty.

My experience as a trial and appellate attorney has proven to me that our justice system works best when a judge follows the law and applies it in a fair manner. I have been tested by a lot of judges, convinced juries to favor my clients, and had to deal with the consequences of judgments. I know what makes a good judge.

Legal analysis of cases has been my profession for almost thirty years. I understand the strengths and weaknesses of a case and I will give due consideration to both sides of all arguments. I have not been involved with prosecutors, defense attorneys, or any sheriff's department, and I will be objective and fair in every case without favoritism or bias. Everyone in court will be treated with the proper respect, but will be held accountable for their actions.

I intend to make the "people's court" more user friendly for civil cases, a part of the court that is underutilized. I don't believe the court's primary function is to make money for the County's general fund, and I will promote more community service programs as sentencing options, and rehabilitation opportunities for those who have not been arrested.

Another difference is I believe it is inappropriate for a judge to speak anything but English while conducting court. The court record is required to be in English and court proceedings are open to the public. The words of the judge should not have to be translated. It creates ambiguity, decreases transparency, and costs more money.

There are many differences between me and my opponent. I urge you to talk to anyone who is familiar with the quality of my work and advocacy before the courts. I am confident you will discover the best choice for Justice of the Peace is to vote for me, Kelly Chase.
