Sixty happy years for Wellington couple

Twenty-two-year residents of Wellington, Leo B. Carter, 82, and Delores N. Carter, 78, are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on Oct. 6. They were married in 1946 in a chapel in Los Angeles, Calif.

"It was just us," said Delores. "We didn't bring anybody with us, except my twin sister (Della Lyons) was the flower girl."

Della and her husband Rowland Lyons are residents of Smith Valley.

The Carters owned a sheet metal business in Los Angeles for 32 years before moving to Wellington. Delores was a stay-at-home mom until her sons, Steve Carter, now 59 and Mark Carter, now 58, were teenagers, then she helped out at the shop. Mark has since taken over the business.

Delores said she is not sure what they are doing for their anniversary, all she knows is her sons will be coming up to visit.

"I have no idea what they have up their sleeve," she said.

Over the years the Carter family has grown. Delores and Leo Carter now have five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

"We've had a real, real happy life together," said Delores. "It just flew by."
