On RPAC, candidates, fire commission and football

At the Mono County Regional Planning Advisory Committee Sept. 7 meeting, representatives from Mono County Public Works and Planning departments were full of information about planned repairs to County facilities and proposed ordinance changes. At the next RPAC meeting on Oct. 5, after giving time for members to examine the ordinance changes more closely, there will be further discussion about how they might affect our area. There will need to be public hearings held throughout the County in the next few months before the changes could take place. Please try to come to the next meeting and become aware of the possibilities.

Fire commission

The monthly meeting of the Antelope Valley Fire Commission will be held 6 p.m. tonight at the Walker Fire Station. Their agenda includes discussion and action on the next year's budget. I'm sure it will be very informative and give an indication of their priorities for the year coming up.

Candidates' night

Tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at the Walker Community Center, the candidates for the offices of Sheriff and Supervisor will be available for questions about their positions on the various issues affecting the Valley. It will be well worth your time to attend and be able to make an informed decision for your November vote.

This and that

n The Coleville High School football and volleyball teams have been busy getting their seasons started. The football team was victorious over Owyhee on Sept. 9, 30-6. Unfortunately, the volleyball team didn't fare as well, but there's always next week. Go get 'em, Wolves!

n Sheriff candidate Doug Northington will be hosting a free barbecue on Sept. 23 at the Community Park in Walker. The event will start at noon and will be a good way to meet and talk with the candidate. The food is being provided by Albert's Deli and Meadowcliff Restaurant.

n Things are starting to get a little busier, now that we are past the Dog Days of August. For example, some of the upcoming events to plan on are:

n The 42nd annual Lions Club Deer Hunter's BBQ will be Oct. 7, with many raffle and door prizes and their usual delicious food.

n The Walker Fall Festival will be Oct. 14 and 15. It will include the fun rubber duck race, a flea market and a craft fair. There are also some great raffle prizes to be won.

n Antelope Valley Women's Club is having a Bazaar on Nov. 12 at the Community Center.

n Antelope Valley Art Show will also be Nov. 12 at the Senior Center.

n The Coleville Boosters will have a fundraiser dinner Nov. 18 at the Community Center, with a Mexican fiesta theme.

I'll keep you informed on all these fun and worthwhile activities in the coming columns.
