Woman charged with embezzlement

The former bookkeeper of a Gardnerville automotive repair business has been charged with felony embezzlement, accused of forging six checks worth nearly $1,500.

Kristi Marie Sanchez, 22, was arrested Sept. 6 after the owners of Hendricks Automotive noticed discrepancies.

Sanchez turned herself into authorities and posted $25,000 bail.

The owners said Sanchez had been employed as bookkeeper for 18 months and they had no problems until the irregularities were discovered in August.

n A 22-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sept. 7 on a warrant from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

A deputy observed someone driving a car without license plates in the Gardnerville Ranchos and stopped Joel Morales-Palacios who was driving a red Ford Explorer.

A check of Morales-Palacios' record revealed the hold from U.S. Immigration.

n A man walking his dog in the Gardnerville Ranchos sand pits discovered an empty safe.

He took deputies to the site and they found a beige Sentry Safe with a key still inside the cylinder. The door bore pry marks.

Officials said they had no idea how long the safe had been in the sand pits. It didn't match any reports of stolen property.

The safe was discovered one-quarter mile on the east side of the main dirt road leading to the dirt quarry area where the road branches into a "y."

n An employee of a Gardnerville gas station reported that a motorist drove away without paying $93.67 for 28 gallons of fuel.

She said the theft occurred Sept. 6 at 6:25 p.m.

She told deputies she was busy with other customers and didn't see the make of the vehicle or the driver.

n The Douglas County Sheriff's Office reported 18 adult contacts for domestic violence Aug. 30-Sept. 5.

There were seven contacts for verbal domestics, four arrests for domestic battery including one adult and three juveniles, one arrest for violating a protective order, four referrals to the District Attorney for review or prosecutions, two referrals to juvenile probation.

Fourteen juveniles witnessed domestic violence with seven juveniles suspects in verbal domestics and domestic battery.

The Family Support Council submitted requests for East Fork Justice Court for five temporary restraining orders with two approvals, two denials and one pending.

Connie Richardson, Douglas County Sheriff's Office domestic violence prevention coordinator, said the average range for contacts is 14-16 per week for this time frame.

The average number of children witnessing domestic violence is 9-11 per week with juvenile suspects at 0-2 per week.
