Man dies in Airport Road wreck

Staff Reports

A Minden man died from injuries he sustained in a two-car accident on Highway 395 Friday.

Danny Wirawan, 34, of Minden, died Tuesday morning from injuries received in the accident which occurred at Airport Road 5:40 p.m. Friday.

Wirawan was westbound on Airport Road at about 5:40 p.m. turning north onto Highway 395 in a 1997 Ford Explorer. According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, he pulled out into the path of a 2002 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Helen Robinson off Carson City who was northbound on the highway.

The subsequent collision knocked the Explorer over onto its top. The Blazer rotated and came to rest on its wheels.

Both drivers were wearing their seat belts and had to be cut out of their vehicles.

Robinson, 50, of Carson City, is recovering from serious injuries she received in the accident and is expected to be released from the hospital in the next few days.

Initial reports were that there were multiple victims in the accident, but according to the Nevada Highway Patrol, each vehicle was occupied only by the driver.

Both Robinson and Wirawan were helicoptered to Reno for treatment after the accident.

Trooper Chuck Allen of the Nevada Highway Patrol reminded drivers to check intersections before entering them.

"Taking the extra two seconds is all it may take to avoid a collision," he said.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is continuing.
