Man hurt in Highway 395 wreck identified as Ronald John Smith

Gardnerville resident Ronald John Smith was identified Monday as the man who was seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision at Highway 395 and Airport Road on Thursday.

Smith, 46, was taken to Renown Medical Center after he pulled out in front of a northbound pickup that collided with his 1993 Ford Taurus on the drivers side.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, Smith was on Airport Road pulling onto Highway 395.

He pulled out into the highway into the path of a 1988 Ford pickup driven by Gardnerville resident John Joseph Timmers, 63.

Troopers estimate Timmers was doing 55-60 mph when the collision occurred.

Timmers told troopers he was following another vehicle north on Highway 395 when that vehicle started to make a right-hand turn onto Airport Road.

Timmers was taken to Carson Valley Medical Center by East Fork Ambulance.

A dog in Timmers' vehicle appeared to be uninjured and was taken by animal control for safekeeping.

Tha accident occurred at 2:05 p.m.
