Football: Coleville thumps McDermitt



The Coleville Wolves ended the 2006 season with a scoring flurry defeating the hosting McDermitt Bulldogs by a final score of 60-20.


Freshman Jason Peters led the offensive explosion rushing for 176 yards and five rushing touchdowns.


Peters also passed for an additional touchdown and junior Trevor Anderson on the receiving end of the five-yard scoring play.


In addition to his receiving touchdown, Anderson also scored on a 45-yard punt return and a 74-yard kickoff return.


Anderson ended the day with 205 combined yards.


Senior Mark Brown made a strong offensive contribution with 54 rushing yards.


Defensively, the Wolves were led by junior Sean Sherlock with seven solos and 12 assists and sophomore Colton Ward had seven soloes and seven assists.


Sophomore Ben Figueroa played his best defensive game of the season ending with six solos and two assists.


Freshmen Nico Curti (three solos, one assist), John Hall (one solo, two assists), and Nik Sherlock (three assists) came off the bench to make significant contributions on defense.


"I was happy that we were able to take control of the game early," Coleville coach Will Sandy said. "We were able to give everyone considerable playing time and I was very excited by the performance of our younger players. I am already looking forward to next season."


For the season, Peters set freshman records for rushing and passing ending with 1,085 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns. He passed for 772 yards and 13 touchdowns.


Coleville (4-5, 2-2) loses only three seniors, Matt Carothers, Mark Brown and Erik Stevens.
