The R-C Morning Report

The Douglas County Clerk's Web site has a countdown to the general election. Today there are 20 days left until Nov. 7.

Tonight is another of the numerous opportunities for voters to educate themselves about candidates and issues. The Business Council of Douglas County, The Record-Courier and the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce are hosting a debate at 6 p.m. There will be refreshments and entertainment ... er, thoughtful political discussion.

Topaz Ranch Estates will try again with a candidates night next week, 6-9 p.m. Oct. 25.

The Record-Courier's election guide will hit the streets Friday, just in time for the opening of early voting on Saturday.

They say football is a game of inches and nowhere is that more true than in the case of the Douglas High School football field. Sports Editor Joey Crandall reports that there's the slightest hint of a chance that the field will be done in time for the last game on Oct. 26. If so, all the state workers should take Oct. 27 off to celebrate. Oh, they will anyway. It's Nevada Day.

There are little patches of fog in the Valley at sunrise this morning with a temperature of a chilly 24 degrees. The high is expected to climb up to 61 degrees today and then on up to 71 degrees on Thursday. There's clear sailing for the foreseeable future with no predicted storms through next Wednesday. Highs will cool down from the 70s next week though.
