The R-C Morning Report

It took long enough, but a light dusting of snow fell this morning in parts of the Carson Valley. The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather watch for Western Nevada. According to a snow advisory issued this morning, snowfall in the Valley is not expected to be heavy, but will concentrate around the morning commute. According to the advisory, the snow will increase as you travel north. It's 38 degrees outside just before sunrise and that's two degrees warmer than today's high temperature, so bundle up.

Highway 50 at Lake Tahoe is a mess, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. There are three property damage accidents, one at Cave Rock and two at Spooner Summit. The Cave Rock accident occurred at 6:15 a.m. and is probably clear by now. The Spooner accidents occurred at 6:40 a.m. and 6:47 a.m., so there is definitely something the matter up there.

Chains and snow tires are required in all the usual places around the Lake. Road controls are in place for both Spooner and Kingsbury Grade. Once you're in California, then those things are mandatory for all three major passes across the Sierra.

There's a wind advisory through Washoe Valley. Watch out for blowing snow.
