Trader Joe's will celebrate the grand opening of their new location in the Carson Valley Plaza at 9 a.m. Dec. 8.

The neighborhood grocery store known for foods and beverages from the exotic to the basic will celebrate its opening throughout the day with giveaways, product demonstrations, food tastings and face painting and free balloons for children.

Trader Joe's carries a variety of domestic and imported foods and beverages including fresh baked artisan breads, Arabica bean coffees, international frozen entrees, juices, nuts, deli items, vitamins and supplements, as well as basics like milk and eggs.

The new store is located at 3790 Highway 395 and is the fifth Trader Joe's to open in Nevada. The store will be open from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. daily.

The Douglas High School music department is known to win and the marching group has taken first-place awards in every competition they have attended this fall" and for as long as anyone can remember, for that matter.

But the highlight of the season has to be when "The Pride of the Carson Valley" came out the best of 47 bands and won the grand sweepstakes trophy at the Tournament of Champions street and field competition in Fairfield, Calif., on Nov. 18.

A 21-year-old South Lake Tahoe man was jailed on a burglary charge accused of walking out of Wal-Mart without paying for a home theater system.

Kolby Blayne Fair was taken into custody Nov. 25 by store security who had been watching he and another suspect allegedly case the store for two months.

The National Weather Service is predicting that cold temperatures will remain with tonight's low dropping to 15 degrees and Tuesday's high climbing all the way up to freezing. Colder locations will experience single digit temperatures. There's a slight chance of precipitation in the form of snow showers tonight and Tuesday.
