Geraldine Smokey Collett

1926-2006

A visitation for Geraldine Smokey Collett, 80, a lifetime Nevada resident, will be noon-2 p.m. Friday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley, with the burial immediately following at Lone Mountain Cemetery, and a reception at the Dresslerville Gymnasium in Dresslerville.

Mrs. Collett died Nov. 10, 2006, at her home after an illness. She was born Feb. 12, 1926, in Minden to William and Sadie Joe Smokey.

She graduated from the Stewart Indian School in 1945.

She married Howard F. "Peanut" Collett on Sept. 4, 1954, in Las Vegas.

She was the bank teller at the Stewart Indian School for many years until the school closed. She retired in 1981 and traveled around Europe until 1985.

She enjoyed spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by siblings Huntington, Thomas, Carnegie, Romaine and Lucille Smokey, Freida Wyatt, Bernice Auchoberry, Theresa Jackson and JoAnn Martinez.

Among her survivors are her children Howard F. Collett Jr. and Joann Thomas; three grandchildren and numerous extended family members.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.

Virginia Ebe Rupert

1919-2006

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Carson Indian Colony Gym, 2900 S. Curry St., Carson City for Virginia Ebe Rupert, 87, who died Nov. 9, 2006, at her home in Carson City.

Mrs. Rupert, an 80-year resident of Carson City was born May 18, 1919, in Owyhee to Harry and Emma Quinn Ebe. She was a graduate of Stewart Indian School in Carson City with honors as a seamstress and in the culinary arts. She married John Rupert of Carson City on June 1, 1946. She worked at the Carson City Orphan's home as the children's care giver during the time her husband was in World War II. She continued to support her husband after the war by working side by side as a janitor's helper at Stewart Indian School, heavy equipment mechanic helper for the Nevada Division of Transportation, countless hours of administration duties for Rupert's Auto Body, cook and seamstress for co-workers, family, employees and anyone within the aroma of her kitchen.

She was an accomplished quilter for NUMA (an organization to help the community), Elder of the Duck Valley Paiute tribe and Honored Elder of the Washoe Tribe, member of the Stewart Baptist Church and the best bread and pie baker on this side of the Carson River.

She is survived by her husband John Rupert of Carson City, her son Leroy Rupert; three grandsons Ben Rupert, Tobin Rupert and Ted Rupert; two great grandchildren John Rupert (son of Ben and Sherry Rupert) and Jett Rupert (son of Ted and Kristy Rupert) all of Carson City.

Arrangements are in the care of FitzHenry's Funeral Home in Carson City. There will be a viewing 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at FitzHenry's Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Stewart Indian Cemetery and followed by a potluck dinner at the Carson Colony gym.
