Man accused of taking truck for joyride

Bail was set Monday at $10,000 cash for a 21-year-old Reno transient accused of taking a stolen Minden Electric truck on a joyride through the sagebrush off East Valley Road.

Devon Michael Reuter was taken into custody wearing a "Minden Electric" T-shirt, although he is not an employee, according to reports.

The $40,000 truck suffered heavy damage and ultimately got stuck in the mud and sagebrush.

The vehicle was reported stolen Nov. 3 in Carson City, but turned up at a residence on Eldon Way on the Valley's east side.

Four Minden Electric employees were advised of the truck's location. They arrived at the site to observe someone driving the truck in circles in the dirt.

The driver took off at a high rate of speed followed by the Minden Electric employees in their own vehicles.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, the truck got stuck and the driver took off on foot. By the time deputies arrived, the driver, identified as Reuter, was lying face down in the dirt, his hands and feet bound with plastic zip ties from the stolen truck.

He is to appear in East Fork Justice Court today.

Jerett Lee McAlister, 23, a resident of the home where the truck was parked, was arrested on a contempt warrant from Carson City.

Reuter denied stealing the truck. He said he was advised of the vehicle's location by several friends using cell phones.

Several tools also were reported missing from the vehicle.

n Police arrested an 18-year-old at the Douglas High School football game Friday and charged him with minor consuming after he was combative with deputies and used obscenities as people exited the stands.

n A contractor at a house under construction in the 1400 block of Cardiff reported Nov. 6 that someone stole a $423 microwave he was to install in the kitchen.

The man reported the appliance was delivered Nov. 5 and was missing the next day.
