Edith Jane Dettling


1922-2006


A memorial service is today at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church in Reno for Edith Jane Dettling, 84, who died Oct. 27, 2006. Mrs. Dettling was born July 24, 1922, in Lodi, Calif. She was one of three children of Frank and Laura Smith. She married into the Nevada pioneer family of Joseph Antone Dettling Jr. at the age of 16 and spent most of her life in Northern Nevada. She was a homemaker while raising her seven children, a member of St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, and a member of St. Albert's Ladies Guild. She was a talented artist and enjoyed crocheting and knitting for her large family.


Mrs. Dettling was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Antone Dettling Jr, her infant daughter Ramona, son Joseph Eugene, brothers Robert and David, and son-in-law Tommy Tizzard.


She is survived by her daughters Diane Pool (Danny) of Reno and Rena Tizzard of Virginia, sons Ronald Dettling (Maryrita) of Illinois, Robert Dettling (Maria) of Reno and Charles Dettling (Lisa) of Reno, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren.


Burial arrangements are under the direction of Our Mother of Sorrow's Catholic Cemetery.
