Gardnerville volunteer firefighters are inviting the community to an open house at the Gardnerville Fire Department at 6 p.m. June 9 to celebrate 95 years of service.
The fire department is located at 1255 Douglas Ave.
There will be food, displays of firefighting equipment and residents will get a chance to meet local firefighters.
The Gardnerville Fire Department is one of the oldest fire departments in Nevada.
Founded in 1911, it has served Gardnerville for the past nine decades.
In the past the department has responded to all types of calls for service including structure fires, medical emergencies, wildland fires, traffic accidents, hazardous materials, public assists and many other types of emergencies.
In addition to responding to Gardnerville emergencies, firefighters have responded out of its service area to numerous incidents including the Waterfall Fire, Walker, Sonora, Sequoia, San Diego, San Luis Obispo and even Malibu. Today the Gardnerville Fire Department performs its duties as Station 2 of the East Fork Fire and Paramedic District.
Sitting in the middle of downtown Gardnerville along the Highway 395 corridor, the department serves and protects a wide spectrum.

The Gardnerville Fire Department is an all-volunteer department working with the career firefighters of the East Fork Fire & Paramedic Districts and the other departments.
