Mechanic opens Gardnerville shop

Matt Valentine has opened his new Pro Tech Auto business in Gardnerville.

Valentine worked for many years as an auto specialist at South Lake Tahoe and for the past three years in Gardnerville at One Way Auto Care.

His new Pro Tech Auto is in the space formerly occupied by Minden Auto Electric at 1210 Service Drive.

Valentine said he specializes in general auto repair.

"At Pro Tech, we do everything but alignments, tires and air conditioning," Valentine said. "We specialize in electrical drivability which is a broad range of complaints - from vibrations, the engine light coming on to those electrical gremlins that sometimes show up."

Laura Valentine said her husband has worked on cars for most of his life.

"Matt solves the problems that other mechanics can't find," said Laura Valentine. "His gift is finding the gremlins."

She said he takes the time to find out what's wrong with a car and to explain the problem to customers.

After they get their new business more established, Matt Valentine hopes to start a program at Pro Tech in the future to educate people about engines and the general upkeep of cars.

"He cares about their cars," Laura Valentine said.

Pro Tech Auto is at 1219 Service Drive in Gardnerville. Hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call 782-2916.
