Junior varsity Tigers thump Carson

The Douglas High softball team opened its season with an 11-1 win against Carson at Lampe Park Thursday.

Danielle Freitas went six innings in the circle, striking out six and scattering four hits.

Carson took a 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the third but Douglas answered with two runs in the bottom of the third and another in the fifth.

The game was stopped in the bottom of the sixth because of the 10-run mercy rule after Douglas put up eight more runs.

Douglas' strong pitching and defense kept the game close until the offense was able to take over.

The Tigers were led by Marina Diaz with three hits, including a double.

Freitas, Mackenzie Cauley and Jocelyn Fencl each had two hits and Katie Gettman had a triple and a double off two monster blasts.

Chloe Trudell, Tara Paiement, Emmie Frank and Megan Michitarian each had one hit.

Douglas hosts Damonte Ranch Thursday at Lampe Park at 3:30 p.m.
